“Grants
from the Fund have been an important and significant part
of the Association's budget each year. The staff at the
Fund does an excellent job of fund-raising as well as assisting
member agencies with strategy for their own fund-raising
efforts. We are grateful to have had such a long and beneficial
association with the Fund for the Arts.”
The Louisville Visual Art Association, one of the oldest
visual art groups in America, was founded in 1909 as an
exhibition forum to provide Louisville artists and patrons
with opportunities to see contemporary visual art. By the
1980s, the organization had relocated to and renovated a
national historic landmark, the Water Tower, Louisville’s
first water pumping station. It serves as an artist-oriented
exhibition space and displays of some of the area’s
longest running and most respected shows like the Water
Tower Annual.
LVAA
constantly seeks to expand its audience and bring visual
art opportunities to underserved groups. Its outreach program,
Open Doors, works with area social service agencies to provide
art experiences to special needs constituents. Building
on its considerable tradition, LVAA’s mission continues
to be “to foster an appreciation of today’s
visual art.”
