The Louisville Youth Choir seeks singers for primary choral program

The Louisville Youth Choir, Inc., Artists in Residence at the Ursuline School for the Performing Arts, seeks interested singers in grades 1-3.  An exploratory pilot choral program for this age group is underway for February – April of 2008.  There is a need in the Louisville area for a community choir of this type and for this age group, and The Louisville Youth Choir hopes to fill this need in the Metro.  This program is open to any singer, without audition, who is currently in grades 1-3 during the 2007-2008 school year.  There is a nominal fee to participate.  All interested should contact The Louisville Youth Choir at 502.896.5859 or via the web at www.theyouthchoir.org.

Louisville Youth Choir, a nonprofit performing arts organization, was established in 1967 to create a passion for singing among young people. LYC annually draws around 100 youth from throughout the metropolitan area, and its musical repertoire includes many styles and cultures, including major classics and modern works, often performed with soloists and orchestras. Open auditions are held seasonally throughout the year, and weekly rehearsals culminate in more than five public performances annually. The Choir's goal is to enhance musical education and performance experiences for students throughout the region and currently includes students from approximately 40 area public, private and Catholic schools. www.TheYouthChoir.org

The Kentucky Arts Council, a state agency in the Commerce Cabinet provides operation support funding for The Louisville Youth Choir Inc. with state tax dollars and federal funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Ursuline School for the Performing Arts, a member of Ursuline Campus Schools, sponsored by the Ursuline Sisters of Louisville, is fully-accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and provides opportunities for students of all ages who wish to pursue careers in the performing arts or who simply want to enrich their lives through music, dance, drama or the visual arts. USPA programs are open to the public, complement those offered by other schools on campus, and encourage students to explore meanings, associations and interpretations of their encounters with the arts. In addition, arts integration classes taught by USPA faculty during the school day are an important component of the educational offerings of the other four Ursuline Campus schools. USPA is housed in Angela Hall, with modern music and dance studios, rehearsal areas, and performance spaces. www.ucschools.com/uspa
