NeXt Brochure

NeXt! is a prestigious leadership development program sponsored by the Fund for the Arts for young professionals from some of Louisville’s most prominent businesses. Our goal is to prepare the next generation for volunteer leadership roles in the area of arts and cultural interests with a strategic focus on strong corporate citizenship. The NeXt! generation of Arts champions will be fully prepared to infuse new energy and life into the strong foundation currently supporting our vibrant Arts scene.

Together through the Arts we create a great American city!

Four Pillars of NeXt!

  1. Education: Monthly educational sessions will be held at various Arts venues during the noon hour. These programs will be led by the Executive Directors and Artistic Directors from Actors Theatre, Kentucky Opera, Louisville Orchestra, Louisville Ballet, Stage One, Louisville Visual Art Association, and all other Fund for the Arts member groups. This up-close and personal experience will include behind-the-scenes tours conducted in a question and answer format.
  2. Budget & Allocations and Fundraising: The NeXt! members will pair up and be assigned to work in small teams with one of the Fund for the Arts member groups in preparation for the annual Budget & Allocation Hearings.  Focus will be placed on the financial aspect of making the Arts organizations successful through strategic fundraising and thoughtful stewardship of all funds raised.
  3. Leadership: Emphasis will be placed on understanding the role and scope of effective board membership and participation. NeXt! members will have the opportunity to meet with current Arts board members and attend board meetings of select Arts organizations.
  4. Relationship Building: A dynamic, thriving community gains much of its success from the people who take the time to build lasting relationships. NeXt! members will begin building relationships with one another and with other Arts patrons by attending various Arts performances together throughout the year. Opportunities to attend reception discussions before and/or after performances will prove to be very rewarding!

JOHN LENNON & ME
by

The winner of many national awards, this uproarious play about life, death, power and first boyfriends was adapted from the popular book, Good-bye, Best Friend. Hollywood-wannabe Star, the ultimate teenage Beatles fan, has been guaranteed a young death by cystic fibrosis. She spends most of her time in the hospital, where she confronts reality with her imagination.

When Star’s new roommate Courtney arrives, Star judges her as a pretty cheerleader who apparently is not very sick. Neither girl knows much about the other's world, but eventually they come to understand each other, and ultimately, themselves. This is a powerful play about the power of friendship and living life to the fullest is a must see for any middle and high school student.
