The
presenter of the popular PNC Broadway Across America-Louisville,
this organization was founded originally in 1938 as the
Louisville Park Theatrical Association. The Association
presented summer stock musicals at the Iroquois Amphitheatre
through the 1940s and 1950s. In the late 1950s, Louisville
Theatrical Association (LTA) began presenting touring shows,
calling the Brown Theatre home until 1983 when the Kentucky
Center for the Arts opened. At that time, the Board took
the bold step of expanding the Series from split-week (4
or 5 performances) to full-week presentations enabling LTA
to schedule top-notch Broadway shows.
The
PNC Broadway Across America-Louisville series has grown
ever since and Louisville has catapulted to a “must
stop” point on the route of all the major touring
Broadway shows. This organization is regarded as having
one of the top ten Broadway Theatre education programs in
the country. People attend from 110 counties in Kentucky
and Southern Indiana.
