Fund for the Arts Exceeds
$7.64 Million Goal
Louisville, KY—At the Fund for the
Arts celebration Luncheon held today in the Fifth Third
Conference Center at the Brown Theatre, it was announced
that the Fund exceeded its 2003 Campaign goal of $7.64 million
with a grand total of $7,650,719. The Fund’s 2003
Campaign Chair, Mike McCallister, President and CEO of Humana,
Inc., made the announcement of the Campaign total. The Corporate
Division raised $2.9 million; the Employee Division totaled
$2.75 million; and the Bravo (Individual) Division raised
a total of $1.4 million. Local government contributed $425,000.
Since it’s inception in 1949, the Fund has raised
over $100 million for the community.
The Fund for the Arts Campaign Chairman Mike McCallister,
President & CEO of Humana, Inc. stated, "The Fund’s
success story is a testament to this community’s enthusiasm
for the arts and the Fund for the Arts Campaign. Despite
adverse economic conditions and our nation at war, the Fund’s
volunteers, staff and supporters have preserved and exceeded
our goal”.
A crowd of more than 100 people was on
hand for the Fund for the Arts 2003 Campaign Finale announcement
celebration. Guests included Fund for the Arts workplace
volunteers, individual and corporate contributors, and representatives
from the more than eleven funded Arts member groups.
In honor of the contributions, Mike McCallister
and Eddy Roberts, Chairman of the Fund Board, presented
a number of awards in the five categories: "Over $100,000”
to eight companies whose employees contributed $100,000
or more; to twenty-four companies who increased their employee
campaigns by 50% of more with at least $1,000 in contributions;
to thirteen companies which had 100% employee participation
in their campaigns, and to fourteen companies conducting
employee campaigns for the first time. Certificates were
also awarded to nineteen companies that showed outstanding
performance in their employee campaigns, representing an
overall targeted increase this year by the Fund for the
Arts.
In other announcements, The Fund Board
elected Henry C. Wagner, Chairman of the Board; David Brooks,
2004 Campaign Chair; and Rick Guillaume as Vice Chair and
2005 Campaign Chair. The Board also approved four new members:
Charles Clephas, Central Labor Council; Craig Grant, PNC
Advisors, Mary Griffith, National City Bank of Kentucky
and William Lamb, Executive VP & General Manager, WDRB,
Fox 41.
The Fund for the Arts’ annual campaign
supports the programs of fifteen member groups: Actors Theatre
of Louisville, The Louisville Theatrical Association (PNC
Bank Broadway Series in Louisville), The Kentucky Opera,
The Kentucky Museum of Art + Design, The Kentucky Shakespeare
Festival, The Louisville Bach Society, The Louisville Ballet,
The Louisville Orchestra, The Louisville Visual Art Association,
The Louisville Youth Choir, The Louisville Youth Orchestra,
Music Theatre Louisville, Stage One and Walden Theatre.
In addition, the Fund supports ten programs, including the
Black Achievers Arts Scholarship Program, The YUM! Brands
Inc. Family Series, the Youth Arts Council, School and Community
Partnership Grants, a School Bus Transportation Subsidy
Program, the Ogle Center Southern Indiana Family Series,
the Scholastic Arts Awards and the Whittenberg Young Artist
Scholarships.
Many organizations were recognized. Categories included:
· "Over $100,000- Top 8"
largest combined corporate and employee campaign totals,
· "Increases- 50% or More", a category
for extraordinary support with increases at organizations
from 50% - 285%,
· “100% Participation”, a category recognizing
businesses where every employee donates,
· “New Campaigns”, the top new business
contributors to the Fund for the Arts for the 2003 Campaign,
and
· “Outstanding Results”, recognizing
specific campaigns for going above and beyond the call of
duty for the Arts.
