FUND
FOR THE ARTS KICKS-OFF 2006 CAMPAIGN
On
Wednesday, It Begins.
And
Louisville is Invited to Join the Party
Wednesday,
February 1 at the Brown Theatre.
January
24, 2006 You'll see smiles all over town on Wednesday,
February 1 as the Fund for the Arts kicks-off its 2006 Campaign
with a free Arts performance at the Brown Theatre. From
noon 1:00 p.m., the entire community is invited to put
on a happy face and celebrate the Arts in Louisville. The
production will showcase short performances from many of
the Fund for the Arts 24 member groups and programs. A complimentary
box lunch from Yum! Brands, Inc. will be provided to all
guests.
Highlights
of the program will include a Louisville Ballet School performance
of a ragtime piece titled Louisville Lou, a scene
from Walden Theatre's most recent production of Blithe
Spirit, a cello solo by Gheens Great Expectations Artist,
Mihai Marica, a sneak preview of Music Theatre Louisville's
2005-06 season and additional performances by the Louisville
Youth Choir, Louisville Youth Orchestra and the Kentucky
Opera. High school artists from the Louisville Visual Art
Association will also be painting, drawing and creating
works of art in the lobby of the theatre.
The
Fund for the Arts Kick-Off Celebration is our chance to
simply thank our many friends and supporters for making
the Arts a priority in our community, said Allan Cowen,
President and CEO of the Fund for the Arts. We chose the
Smiles theme because it really gets to the core of why we
support the Arts; the Arts in Louisville make us smile each
and every day.
The
2006 Fund for the Arts campaign goal is also intended to
turn frowns upside down. At $7,654,321, the Fund's goal
is slightly more than last year's total of $7,440,000. It
is expected that approximately 40% of 2006 donations will
be made through employee campaigns which began in early
January 2006. This year is also the third year of a three-year
Humana Foundation New Gift Initiative that matches, dollar-for-dollar,
new corporate and employee campaign gifts.
The
2006 Fund for the Arts campaign is chaired by Bud Schardein,
Executive Director of the Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD).
As a long-time fan of the Arts in Louisville, Schardein
counts Opera among his favorite art forms.
Mayor
Jerry Abramson will join Bud Schardein and Allan Cowen as
co-presenters during the hour-long Fund for the Arts Kick-Off
celebration. Invited guests, community members, business
leaders and more than 500 elementary and middle-school students
from throughout the region are expected to fill the house
at the event.
The
Fund for the Arts receives partial funding from the Kentucky
Arts Council, a state agency in the Commerce Cabinet with
support from the National Endowment for the Arts. Additional
support for the 2006 Campaign kick-off has been provided
by Yum! Brands and the Louisville Water Company. For more
