FUND FOR THE ARTS KICKS OFF PUBLIC PHASE OF ANNUAL CAMPAIGN

The Greater Louisville Fund for the Arts, the oldest united arts fund in America, kicks off the public phase of its 2003 campaign at a celebratory lunch at the Brown Theatre on Tuesday, February 4, 2003 at 12:00 noon. This year’s campaign theme is You’re the One! The Fund’s 2003 campaign goal was announced at $7.64 million.

2003 Fund for the Arts Campaign Chairman Mike McCallister, Chief Executive Officer of Humana Inc., reports that while the campaign is already at 50% of goal, widespread effort is needed over the next five months to guarantee adequate support for the Fund’s 25 member groups and programs. “Our acclaimed arts organizations are justifiably the envy of many communities around the country, and we hope the community will continue to respond enthusiastically to our call for support,” McCallister said.

Allan Cowen, President and CEO of the Fund for the Arts, states that “now more than ever, the Arts need the support of the community if they are going to continue to provide quality visual arts, performances and educational programming for our children.” Cowen emphasized that the Arts are a major contributor to the local economy, providing more than $100 million in annual economic impact, and that “the Fund for the Arts helps keep the arts alive in our city. More than 1.5 million people enjoy the arts here each and every year.”

While arts fund Board members, corporations and major foundations have already been solicited, the public phase of the Campaign includes employee workplace giving from more than 28,000 regional employees. As a result of the broad-based support for the Fund, Louisville enjoys the largest per capita giving to the arts of any city in America.
The fundraising campaign runs from February 4 to June 30, 2003

Special performances at the Kickoff celebration include: The Louisville Youth Choir, Stage One, Actors Theatre of Louisville’s Marc Masterson, Michael Davis and Robert Franz of The Louisville Orchestra, The Louisville Bach Society, Artistic Director for the Kentucky Opera, Deborah Sandler, The Louisville Ballet, Sharon Kinninson of the Music Theatre of Louisville, Louisville Visual Art Association, and the Kentucky Art & Craft Foundation. Other guests include Jefferson County Public Schools performing the Grand Finale; Louisville Central Community Centers, Conway Middle, Meyzeek Middle, Englehard Elementary, Lassiter Middle and Lincoln Elementary.
