The Fund for the Arts receives a $10,000 grant to aid Metro Louisville 's arts education initiatives

LOUISVILLE, KY, Oct. 19, 2004-- The Fund for the Arts is the recipient of a $10,000 grant from the Alcoa Foundation. The Alcoa Foundation and the Fund for the Arts have partnered to provide arts educational opportunities to area middle schools near the three Alcoa facilities in Jefferson County .

The $10,000 grant will enhance middle school performing and visual arts projects in the Metro Louisville area. Alcoa Middle School Arts Partnerships Program will focus on at-risk students in targeted Metro Louisville geographic areas by providing students with opportunities for success through arts programs.

Meyzeek Middle School is just one community school that will take advantage of the Alcoa funds. Plans have been developed to utilize the limited green space in front of Meyzeek to create an outdoor classroom. Meyzeek faculty along with Arts and Sciences classes will build a pond to support teaching science, language arts, and creative arts. Also, some of the land will be used for gardening and landscaping projects and the community at large will be able to use the area as a park. “The Fund for the Arts is thrilled to partner with the Alcoa Foundation in bringing arts experiences to area middle schools,” said Barbara Sexton Smith.
